What is the GEDCOM format?
GEDCOM (GEnealogical Data COMmunication) is a text file format created to exchange genealogical data between programs. A file has the .ged extension.
It describes individuals (INDI), families (FAM), events (birth, marriage, death), places, dates and notes, as hierarchical lines.
How do I export a GEDCOM from my software?
Most genealogy programs (Heredis, Gramps, Geneanet, Ancestry, MyHeritage, Legacy, etc.) offer an “Export” or “Export as GEDCOM” function.
Look for a File → Export → GEDCOM menu. You will get a .ged file that you can open in Genea World.
Open your tree in Genea World
Go to the App page, then drag your .ged file or select it. The file is read directly by your browser: nothing is sent over the Internet.
You can then search for an ancestor, view their record, move between generations and correct information.
Edit and re-export
After your corrections, use the “Export GEDCOM” button to download a new file containing your changes.
Keep this file on your device or re-import it into your usual software.
What about privacy?
Genea World stores nothing on a server and requires no sign-up. Your data stays on your device from start to finish.
This is a design choice: genealogy involves personal data, and it should remain under your control.
